Ghost Notes Zone!
Lady Gaga – Applause. I took the main ideas out of the song and dressed them up with embellishments and ghost notes.
Most of my embellishments are actually present in the song itself, they are just not played on drums. For instance my hi-hat part in the chorus plays the rhythm taken from the keyboard part etc. Listen closely to the original track to see where all my extras came from. I added the ghost notes in the choruses to give my drum parts fuller sound. All the variations of my chorus parts sound great on their own. Check them out. It is a great way to work on both, Independence and dynamic Independence ( each limb playing accents at different times without effecting each other).
First four times through the 1st Chorus I only open the last hi-hat while accenting other notes in the hi-hat pattern. I also play accent on each “&” of a beat while setting it up with a single ghost note on “e” on my snare. Bass drum keeps the same pattern throughout all chorus variations. (1 / e of 2 / 3 / e of 4)
Time – 0:55
Second half of the 1st Chorus I open last two hi-hats notes of the same hi-hat pattern. In the snare drum part I added accented notes on “a of 1” and “a of 3” (copying the claps like effects in the song) and keeping the same ghost notes on “e” of each beat.
Time – 1:09
First half of the 2nd Chorus I open all (previously) accented notes in the hi-hat pattern while keeping the last two notes closed and accented. My snare drum part is the same as in the first half of the 1st Chorus.
Time – 2:04
Second half of the 2nd Chorus my hi-hat part remains the same. Snare drum is the same as in the second half of the 1st Chorus.
Time – 2:17
For the whole last Chorus I open all (previously) accented notes on the hi-hat including the last two. My snare drum part remain the same.
Time – 2:58
