Nascent released an awesome video tonight. 8 months in the making. Props to Paul Villanova, Padrick Ritch, Ian Sexton, Jeff Briggs,Tom Hanslowe, Chris Poland, and the estate of Joan Mitchell.
The video, created by filmmakers Paul Villanova, Padrick Ritch and Ian Sexton, is a mix of live action narrative and experimental film. Inspired by anesthesia-driven hallucinations that Paul experienced while having brain surgery in early 2014, the video takes a surreal trip through the darker reaches of the mind. To create a psychedelic visual experience, the filmmakers utilized a number of avant-garde techniques, such as “paint & scratch,” which involved hand painting and scratching 400 ft of 35MM film – 1 frame at a time – before digitally transferring the analog film reels.
The song, “..and Bleakness Comes Through the Trees Without Sound” is from Nascent’s 2013 release, “Methods for Detection, Analysis, and Isolation.” Named after a quote from the abstract expressionist painter Joan Mitchell, …and Bleakness.. features Chris Poland (Ohm, Megadeth) and Tom Hanslowe (Ashes).
